Institutul pentru Solidaritate Socială și Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Romania organizează pe 9 octombrie, între orele 10.00-11.30 o discuție cu economistul Jason Hickel, autor, între altele, a cărții ”Diviziunea. Scurt ghid despre inegalitatea globală și soluțiile sale” (Editura Idea, 2019, traducere în limba română de Ovidiu Țichindeleanu).
Tema discuției: Inegalitate și descreștere – perspective de dezvoltare în antropocen. Co-participant al discuției este Ovidiu Țichindeleanu.
Scurtă descriere a discuției:
The dominant myth is that neoliberal globalization and continuous economic growth are reducing global poverty and inequality. In reality, 60% of the human population remains in poverty, and global inequality has increased dramatically over the past few decades: the real per capita income gap between the global North and global South has quadrupled since the end of colonialism. And, at the same time, growth is driving a crisis of ecological breakdown. How can we confront this double problem? Friedrich Ebert Romania and Institute for Social Solidarity are organizing an event, with Jason Hickel as main speaker, in which we will explore what is driving this crisis and how degrowth can help us change course.
Dr. Jason Hickel is an economic anthropologist, author, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He serves on the Statistical Advisory Panel for the UN Human Development Report 2020, the advisory board of the Green New Deal for Europe, and on the Harvard-Lancet Commission on Reparations and Redistributive Justice Jason’s research focuses on global inequality, political economy, post-development, and ecological economics, which are the subjects of his two most recent books: The Divide: A Brief Guide to Global Inequality and its Solutions (Penguin, 2017), and Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World (Penguin, 2020).
